The Flexfire Direct Drive 2.0 Series represents the pinnacle of surfboard technology and pays tribute to the Firewire mantra: “The Future of Shape.”

Firewire has firmly established the PARABOLIC balsa rail and EPS sandwich construction as one of the most high-performance surfboards in the world. In keep with our commitment to R&D, we were determined to exceed the boundary.

Developed in partnership with Surfboard Suspension Systems, Direct Drive 2.0 takes Future Shapes Technology a step further with the introduction of SSS’s patented EXO-CARBON technology, an internal skeletal frame engineered in and around Firewire’s blank.

Direct Drive 2.0 incorporates high-density rail foam with carbon EXO-CARBON perimeter rods, suspended and interconnected inside the rail, as well as a “torque transfer” system connected directly to the base of the fins. Together with Future Fins “Blackstix” carbon fins, the rider will experience “tip to toe” control – from the tips of the fins to the rider’s toes.

The EXO-CARBON perimeter rods are calibrated in thickness and placement to create a carbon skeleton that controls the rate and degree of flex and flex memory, taking advantage of the high-frequency resonance inherent in carbon structural components. This structure, combined with Firewire’s parabolic balsa rail technology, makes for one very lively surfboard, tuned for performance and deep carving turns.

FINS NOT INCLUDED.

The Technology

Firewire Surfboards’ Future Shapes Technology features controlled flex memory with rapid rebound.  The parabolic balsa wood rails flex at the start of a turn storing energy and rebound through the turn, releasing built up energy in the form of speed.  The spring back of the parabolic rails to the original rocker triggers rapid acceleration, like an arrow shot from a bow.  Combined with the composite materials used in Firewire’s sandwich construction, parabolic balsa rails reduce material fatigue and ensure that the board maintains its long-lasting “twang.”

The Materials
Using expanded polystyrene foam cores, high-density foam outer skins and high-tech epoxy resins, Firewire surfboards are up to 20% lighter than traditional polyurethane foam boards, and maintains its “new board” liveliness 5-10 times longer.  Furthermore, the use of parabolic balsa rails and composite materials reduces premature denting and material fatigue.

NOTE: Due to non-standard (oversized) packaging, surfboards are shipped by a different carrier and incur additional shipping fees.  When ordering a surfboard, please select Ground shipping – the stated fee will NOT be charged to your card.  The actual fee will be calculated once the board has been packaged and weighed, and if substantially different, you will be contacted prior to our charging this fee to your card.
